Forex position size calculator
Enter your account balance, how much you are willing to risk and your stop distance. The calculator shows the lot size and the money at risk, using Lots = (balance × risk%) ÷ (stop pips × pip value per lot).
Pip value is about $10 per standard lot on pairs that end in USD (EUR/USD, GBP/USD, AUD/USD). On USD/JPY it is about $6 to $7. Check your broker for exotic pairs, gold and indices.
The result is rounded down to 0.01 lots, so your risk never exceeds the amount you chose.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate lot size?
Divide the money you will risk (balance times risk percent) by the stop distance in pips multiplied by the pip value per lot.
Why round down?
Rounding up would risk more than you planned. Most brokers allow 0.01 lot steps.
